No other cold press juicer auger has a cutting edge, since their augers are designed simply to draw fruits and vegetables into the sieve for squeezing. The VitaJuice auger has sharp edges that actually cut fruits and vegetables into small pieces. This drastically reduces the load on the motor and the work that it needs to do, and therefore reduces the potential of oveheating of the appliance.

The VitaJuice is first and foremost a juicer, specifically a cold press juicer: the large auger draws the food down into the juicing screen and is gently and slowly squeezed. This is completely different to the juicing action of centrifugal juicers, which chop and spin-dry the fruit at high speed. This fast action of centrifugal juicers is key to the rapid degeneration of juice extracted this way, because the juice is mixed with air and the friction created in the process artificially heats the juice, providing a perfect environment for bacterial growth.

When heat, static electricity and large amounts of air are drawn in during the juicing process, nutrients are destroyed as oxidation occurs. Essential enzymes in fruit and vegetable juice die at temperatures exceeding 50°C. Any juice extractor using a high-speed blade or centrifuge creates friction heat and destroys vital nutrients. The shelf life of centrifugally juiced product can be as little as half an hour, whereas cold-pressed juice can last up to 48 hours.
